Rehearse your read
Start the clock and read aloud.
Ready when you are.
This is an estimate. Delivery, names, numbers, and pronunciation change the timing. The counter treats contractions and hyphenated words as one; languages without word spaces may need a different pace. Rehearse aloud for the final duration.

A better fit for your next spot.
A script that fits on the page can still run past the break. Give the words, the delivery, and the pauses their own space.

Write it the way you will say it.
Spell out prices, numbers, and abbreviations. Remove production notes you will not read. A written “$19” takes longer to say than one short word.
- 02
Leave room for the production.
Set your target length and allow for pauses, music, a station ident, or a sound effect. Keep a little breathing room around the final call to action.
- 03
Do one real read.
Start the rehearsal timer and speak at your normal pace. If you run long, trim the script or adjust the delivery, then read it again.
A few useful answers
What is a script timer?
A script timer estimates how long your written script will take to read aloud. Paste your words, set a speaking pace, and compare the result with your available airtime. It is useful for radio commercials, station announcements, voiceovers, podcast intros, and live show links.
How many words fit in a 30-second or 60-second radio ad?
At 150 words per minute, a 30-second spot holds about 75 words and a 60-second spot about 150 words, before pauses. A 15-second spot holds roughly 37 words. Names, prices, music, sound effects, and a clear call to action need room too. Choose your target in the timer and add time for pauses.
What speaking speed should I use?
Start at 150 words per minute as a planning assumption, then adjust to your delivery. Try 120 for a more deliberate read or 180 for a brisk one. These are estimates, not rules. Use the rehearsal stopwatch to measure your actual read and refine the pace.
Is this a reading time calculator or an actual timer?
Both. The estimate converts word count into spoken time at your chosen pace. The rehearsal stopwatch measures elapsed time while you read aloud. You can pause and reset it. It does not record your microphone or listen to your voice.
How accurate is the script duration estimate?
The estimate is word count divided by words per minute, plus the pause allowance. It cannot predict emphasis, pronunciation, laughter, or improvised lines. Write numbers and abbreviations as you will say them, remove unspoken stage directions, and rehearse the final script before broadcast.
Do I need an account, and is my script saved?
No account is required. Your script is processed in your browser and is not uploaded or saved by this tool. Copy any text you want to keep before leaving the page.
